DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua is launching an early “housekeeping” mission in Nyeri to quell escalating factional wrangles with the party. Starting next month, the former Deputy President will camp in his home county to manage local political tensions and handle competing aspirants.
These consolidation efforts come as Gachagua attempts to convert an emotionally charged anti-government movement into a loyal grassroots base. According to reliable sources at the DCP headquarters, the upcoming restructuring will target the youth and women leagues, alongside county party coordination.
This follows a surprise shake-up at the top leadership, leading to the appointment of Nyandarua Senator John Methu as the party’s acting Secretary General, pending formal approval from the Registrar of political parties.
“Senator John Methu, for all practical purposes, is a member of DCP, and he will start acting from today as the secretary general-designate and be the spokesman of the DCP party on all matters starting today,” said Gachagua.

Methu has solidified his role as one of Gachagua’s most fierce parliamentary allies and defenders. His appointment is widely viewed as a strategic move to secure a loyal inner circle ahead of an anticipated, high-stakes political showdown with the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
However, whisperings of a major restructuring in Nyeri County have triggered unease within the DCP’s grassroots network. Sources reveal that imminent shake-ups include replacing the county coordinator, revamping the youth league leadership, and reorganizing party offices.

Furthermore, Gachagua is expected to personally steer political negotiations to select the 2027 candidates for the county, most notably the gubernatorial position. With the incumbent Mutahi Kahiga serving his final term, the coveted seat has already drawn a crowded field of contenders from different political coalitions.
