Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei claims the ruling UDA party is planning to infiltrate the opposition-linked Democracy for Citizens party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, 27th May, Cheragei stated that UDA will sponsor government-friendly candidates on DCP tickets in the Mt. Kenya region to maintain political dominance, despite rising support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s new outfit.
“As a government, Mt Kenya is a stronghold of UDA. We will not allow anybody or some individuals to masquerade. We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night,” said the Nandi Senator.
The Senator noted that the strategy specifically targets key battlegrounds like the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial race. Succession politics in that region have intensified ahead of the 2027 elections as Governor Ann Waiguru nears the end of her two-term limit.
Senator Cherargei emphasized that UDA is determined to secure victories for candidates aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration in the region.
“I was in Murang’a and here in Kirinyaga. We have some women leaders there and we must ensure we win. We must have people who are friendly and after the election they will come home,” stated Cherargei.

The Nandi Senator accused the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, of transforming DCP into an “auction house” where party tickets allegedly go to the highest bidder.
“I want to warn all aspirants under DCP that it is the highest auction in the house. Some of us have intelligence that those who are funded will be given party tickets,” he added.
POLITICAL HEADACHE: Gachagua’s Opposition Dilemma.
Cheragei’s remarks come amidst political realignments in the Mt. Kenya region, with several UDA elected leaders recently distancing themselves from the ruling party to align themselves with Rigathi Gachagua, who appears to be a formidable force in the mountain.
