The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a raft of changes in the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) after a security scare on Sunday, the 24th of June, when the Head of State was addressing an audience in Kilifi County.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat announced the changes that saw several officers serving in the Presidential Escort Unit and Recce Squad reassigned to other duties.
The commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU), Noah Kirwa Maiyo has been transferred from his position to the Kenya Police Headquarters under the Vigilance department. Following the transfer of Noah Maiyo, Mr. William Sawe has been appointed as the new commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit. Sawe was serving at the C.O Recce Sub unit.

Mr. George Kirera who was initially serving as a staffing officer personnel will now be the new Deputy Commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit. Mr. Juda Mathews Gwiyo is set to proceed to a leave pending his retirement. Gwiyo was serving as the Deputy Commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit.

Mr. Josphat Sirma who was serving as Deputy C.O Recce Sub unit, has been moved to C.O Recce Sub unit. Mr. Rere Kipkoech has also been moved from Deputy SOB1 to the Kenya Police Headquarters Vigilance.
The recent Presidential security breach has sparked mixed reactions across the country, with several leaders and Kenyans at large expressing their concerns about the safety of the Head of State.
